COCAFEM / GL organized on August 25, 2017 in Kinshasa in the DRC and on August 30, 2017 in Bujumbura in Burundi and in Kigali in Rwanda press conferences on its interventions and those of its partners in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
These press conferences, the targets of which were mainly women and men from the various media, had a double objective, namely (1) Sharing the achievements and interventions of COCAFEM / GL and other actors in the fight against SGBV and (2) Launch reflection on the capitalization of media spaces on the issue of SGBV in terms of prevention, protection, assistance to victims / survivors and fight against impunity for perpetrators of SGBV.
Thanks to the financial support of its partners CECI, Coopération Suisse and CARE International in Burundi, several large-scale actions to effectively combat SGBV have been carried out by COCAFEM / GL in Burundi in relation to Prevention, Assistance to victims / survivors of SGBV and the fight against impunity for perpetrators of SGBV.
These interventions were effective thanks to close collaboration with the Executive Secretariat of the ICGLR and with the sectoral Ministries in Burundi, DRC and Rwanda, in this case the Ministry in charge of Gender, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of health.
In the 3 countries, men and women of the media were recommended to strengthen monitoring of subjects relating to SGBV, to commit to denounce their atrocities, to facilitate awareness raising and to fight against this scourge in accordance with Decision 15 of the Kampala Declaration on SGBV.
